Business as usual

Things are fairly normal around here...

I can not find the scanner anywhere. I remember asking TR to put it "somewhere" but neither one of us can remember where "somewhere" is.

I'm feeling pregnant. This baby moves around a LOT more than Munchkin ever did. I blame this on TR because the man is constantly fidgeting. I swear he would probably cease to exist if he had to be still.

I'm still not sleeping.

Christmas is in 24 days and I have yet to make a dent in my shopping.

It looks like winter outside with the gray skies and general gloominess, yet it feels like spring thanks to the 55 degree temp and STRONG winds. We're under a tornado watch for at least the next 15 minutes. Apparently the temperature will drop into the 30s this afternoon and we'll see Ohio's version of a sick joke in the weather department. The oh-so-lovely rain/ snow mix that makes normal people drive like morons and the morons drive like they are on a suicide mission.

Sigh...

It's a G-I-R-L...

pictures to come as soon as I can find my scanner.

Blah, blah, blah... or my religious experience of the week

So, I've decided I suck at blogging.

When people call you on the phone and say, "you haven't updated your blog in forever" and know exactly how long it's been- that sucks. When someone emails you and says, "Wow, I just saw your update- I thought you quit blogging" - that sucks too.

I always intend to write, I just never get around to it. I'll open up the window to start typing and get distracted and close it. Seriously, I do this almost daily.

Anyway...

I went to my OB last week (maybe the week before?) and took TR and Munchkin with me. We're sitting in the waiting room (and trust me when I say that my husband is no better at waiting than my 5 year old) and Munchkin is looking at magazines. Getting bored with the pictures in Healthy Pregnancy (or whatever other crap they leave lying about in a doctor's office collecting germs) he notices a black book on an end table. It's a bible.

Let me interject here that we are not a religious family. My son has been inside a church maybe 5 times in his life and two of those were for funerals. He doesn't know about God, Jesus, or any of the stories that go along with them. I think religion is something you should choose when you're old enough to make your own informed decision. Not something you should be brainwashed into as a child. What he chooses to believe or not believe is entirely up to him when he is older.

So back to the waiting room...

He carries the bible over to his chair and opens it up. He doesn't know how to read yet so he just starts flipping through the pages. "Hey! There aren't any pictures in here!"

"No, that book just has words."

At this point he closes it up and takes it back to the table. "I hate this book!"

Now, I have to try not to laugh, but my husband starts cracking up. "Me, too kid."

Then I get treated to several minutes of the two of them complaining about the buzzing fluorescent light in the ceiling. My husband because he knows how to fix it and can't believe that no one else has, and Munchkin because "that sound is annoyin' me!"

Munchkin gets bored with this and heads back to the black book. He sits down and opens it back up. After about 20-25 pages of flipping, I hear a HUGE sigh followed by the statement that takes me over the edge and has me cracking up for the rest of the day: "This is so boring... all this book says is blah, blah, BLAH!"

.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Everything went okay at the appointment... pretty typical. Although let me tell you that the glucose test is SO not my favorite part of being pregnant.

We have a sonogram next Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully, (keep your fingers crossed!) we will be finding out the sex of the baby then. They want to verify the dates too, though they seem to be pretty sure about April 9. I will update on Tuesday (maybe Wednesday?) with any exciting news.

Thanksgiving is next week. Blah. I HATE turkey. This is not a new thing. Yet every year I am subjected to the astonished "You don't eat turkey?" or "How can you not like turkey?" from people I have not eaten turkey with for several years. I guess that's to be expected when you marry into a meat- loving family. Mashed potatoes and dressing (yum... Stove Top!) it is for me again.

Catching up... vol 1- 1st day of school

These two photos are from Munchkin's 1st day of school. He was excited but sooo nervous. He seems to like school overall, though he is getting sick of doing the same worksheets every day.

Remember kindergarten? It was mostly fun, right? Not so much now. The kids have to be reading and writing (as in keeping a journal) by the end of the year. They rarely have recess. Why? State testing.

I looked into homeschooling before he started school. I strongly considered it. But I realized that I probably lack the patience to teach someone how to read. But, the idea is still in the back of my mind. Maybe once he gets the basics we'll make the change. Anything is possible right?

Slacking...

So, yeah, I've been slacking on the updates lately. So sue me. Okay, not really. Not that you'd get anything, but I just don't need that headache.

We started kindergarten, soccer, and 8pm bedtimes all with a minimum of fuss. The husband has a new job where he's home every night and off on weekends. I purchased my 1st "mom car" only to have it die on me a month later. We rode Thomas the train (excuse me, Thomas the Tank Engine). We had an evening run to Urgent Care for breathing treatments and steroids.

It's been busy around here. Lots of those events have photos that go with them. Hopefully I'll get them posted soon.

Now is when I point out to everyone that isn't observant that I have a new countdown ticker up top. Go look, I'll wait. Yep, that's right folks. A baby. We're excited (& nervous, terrified, happy, and overwhelmed) about it so you better be too.

Now to answer your questions:

I feel like crap. I thought puking was bad, but round the clock nausea is worse. You know it sucks when water makes you feel sick to your stomach.

We don't care what sex it is as long as it's healthy. It doesn't have a nickname yet. We've just taken to referring to it as whatever fruit the pregnancy website I visit says it the same size as. This week it's an orange.

We will be finding out what it is as soon as we can. It just makes things easier.

No, I'm not taking my pre-natal vitamins. I can't. It's Flinstones for me again.

I hated the way the birth of Munchkin went so I've been looking into alternatives. Unfortunately, midwives are not well loved in my area. So we'll see what happens.

Once again I plan to not have any drugs during labor. It didn't hurt that much last time and I think in most cases they are an unnecessary risk.

I will not, once again, be breastfeeding. It is a personal choice not a political one. I would never berate another woman for breastfeeding. As such, I expect the same courtesy.

In keeping with my last pregnancy, I am losing weight not gaining it. I've lost 15lbs already.

Munchkin is VERY excited. He says "good morning baby" and "good night baby" every day. He tells every person that he sees or meets that "My mommy has a baby in her tummy."

Basically, other than feeling pukey and exhausted, things are pretty good.

That's all for now.
